Presenting the True Data Story: Working with Official and Unofficial Data

Can official and unofficial data complement each other? What role does unofficial data play in the open data culture? As cities begin to open up data about complex and controversial topics, increased interest around data and the historical lack of access to it has led advocacy organizations and the media to take data collection into their own hands by crowdsourcing data. These crowdsourced unofficial datasets are similar in nature but at times present a different narrative. This lightning talk discusses approaches agencies can take to create an open data plan which includes a space for unofficial datasets.
