Data-Driven Decision Making at Utah Department of Transportation

The Utah Department of Transportation worked with Grant Thornton and Socrata to develop a dynamic data management system to improve data-driven decision making. At Socrata Connect, Mike Barba from Grant Thornton spoke about one specific use case: crash data. UDOT collects over 80 factors that contribute to traffic accidents, from precipitation to time of day to the ages of the drivers. By analyzing this data, the department was able to better understand which factors influence crashes and take actions to prevent them in the future.
