Yes, You Should Definitely Attend Socrata Connect. Here’s Why.

What are you doing this May 17-18? We hope your answer is attending Socrata Connect, our annual conference on everything data. This is our fourth time putting on this event… and it gets better each and every year. Here are five amazing reasons to join your peers, government thought leaders, and the Socrata staff in Austin at Socrata Connect:

1. Sunshine, Queso, Culture, and Cowboy Boots

This year, the city of Austin is co-hosting Socrata Connect. Austin is a leader in open data, and we can’t wait to pick up on their best practices. Austin is also a delightful destination. Catch live music, a movie, or a game of pinball, visit museums and parks, and feast on the city’s mouthwatering tacos, barbeque, and more. Here are more of our favorite things to do in Austin.

2. Thought-Provoking Speakers

Our sessions feature a mix of thought leaders on data and government topics (from city, state, and federal levels) with inspiring stories and practical best practices to share. This year, we’re delighted to welcome HHS CTO Bruce Greenstein to speak on connecting data between agencies to address the opioid crisis — and that’s just the beginning. We’ll be adding more speakers as we get closer to the event.

3. See What Your Peers Are Doing

Learn from the best: your fellow government staffers. Last year, Demo Alley was a huge hit — attendees loved seeing how other governments are using data to solve problems, engage the community, and deliver services more efficiently and effectively. So this year, we’ve expanded Demo Alley — it’s bigger and better, and offers you even more opportunities to chat with people showing off their portals and performance management programs.

4. We’re Awarding Innovators (Send Us Nominations!)

Has your department or government done something extraordinary with data? We want to know — and recognize the accomplishment. This year, for the very first time, we’re having our version of the Oscars: The Socrata New and Unique (SNU) Award will be given to the people behind the most innovative, data-driven solutions. The four finalists get free passes to Socrata Connect so nominate a peer, a friend, or yourself!

5. Good Times with Friends

Take time in Austin to network with peers. We’ll have plenty of meals and opportunities to catch up with old friends and meet new ones from governments of all levels, and from all over the country. And, we’ve lined up a wildly fun entertainment: the ‘80s cover band, The Spazmatics. (Haven’t heard of them? Check out their rendition of “What I Like About You” or “Living on a Prayer” and get ready to get lost on YouTube.)
